Senegal at a Glance

Westernmost of the African continent, Senegal offers visitors a rich array of cultural and natural spectacles.

From the vivacity of the capital city Dakar artistic heart to the jazz-loving St Louis, the modern nation fosters its customs and nurtures its talents in equal measure. Spread across grassy plains and arid open space of over 197,000 km², this former French occupied territory still boasts elegant colonial architecture, whilst retaining much of its tribal traditional village heartlands.

Beyond the influence of man, however, is a land with abundant birdlife and exquisite shorelines. Senegal is keen to celebrate and share its history and wildlife with those who come to discover this gem of West Africa.

Our Senegal Holiday Package Highlights

Our Senegal Holiday Package Options

If you’re looking for unforgettable experiences, our Senegal Vacation packages offer thoughtfully designed journeys that showcase the country’s culture, history, and natural beauty:

The 7-day Coast and Delta Explorer introduces you to the country’s key highlights. The journey begins in Dakar, visiting major landmarks and nearby Gorée Island, before continuing to Lake Retba and the historic streets of Saint-Louis. Time is spent observing birdlife in Djoudj National Park, visiting the holy city of Touba, and exploring the calm waterways of the Saloum Delta, where traditional island communities still thrive. The experience concludes at Joal-Fadiouth before returning to Dakar.

The 14-day Senegal and Guinea-Bissau Explorer builds on this experience and continues beyond Senegal to the remote Bijagos Islands. After completing the Senegal itinerary, the journey extends by air and boat to island communities where daily life remains largely unchanged. This part of the trip focuses on quiet beaches, rare wildlife, and meaningful cultural encounters in one of West Africa’s least visited regions.

Both journeys are led by experienced local guides.

Guinea-Bissau represents one of West Africa's most untouched and least-visited destinations—tiny, impoverished, with minimal tourism infrastructure but extraordinary cultural authenticity. The Bijagos Islands maintain traditional lifestyles and rare wildlife (including saltwater hippos) found almost nowhere else. Very few travelers reach Guinea-Bissau, making it genuinely exploratory. Combining with Senegal works logistically (short flight from Dakar to Bissau) and experientially (Senegal's accessibility balanced by Guinea-Bissau's extreme remoteness). The 14-day tour provides comprehensive West African experience from developed Dakar to barely-touched Bijagos—maximum diversity in one journey.

Both Senegal tours involve light to moderate activity (Coast and Delta Explorer: fitness 2/5; Guinea-Bissau extension: fitness 3/5). Daily activities include walking on flat terrain through cities and villages, getting in and out of boats for island and delta visits, and coping with heat. The Coast and Delta Explorer is quite relaxed with no strenuous activities. The Guinea-Bissau extension adds more boat travel and basic conditions. Anyone with reasonable mobility who can walk short distances and handle heat comfortably will manage well. These aren't physically challenging tours.
