Overview

An introduction to Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast tours reveal one of West Africa's most layered cultural landscapes, largely untouched by mass tourism. From the Akan monarchy traditions of Abenguru to the Senufo ironworks of Korhogo, the Baulé mask ceremonies of Bouake and the Dan stilt dances near Man, each region of Côte d'Ivoire follows its own ancient rhythms. Grand Bassam's faded colonial architecture completes a journey that spans coast, savannah and forest.

Our small group Ivory Coast tours travel from Abidjan's modern skyline through Yamoussoukro, Bouake, Korhogo and Man, connecting communities that rarely see international visitors. With a maximum of 12 travellers, each departure offers genuine access to ceremonies, craftspeople and cultural figures who define this destination. Tailor-made Ivory Coast holidays are also available for those who prefer to travel privately.

A Living Cultural Landscape

Ivory Coast is home to more than 60 ethnic groups, each maintaining their own ceremonies, crafts and belief systems. Few destinations anywhere offer such concentrated cultural diversity in a single tour route.

01

Ceremonies You Won't Find Elsewhere

From the Komian trance rituals of the Anyi to the iron smelting of the Senufo and the acrobatic stilt dances of the Dan, the experiences on an Ivory Coast holiday are simply not replicated anywhere else.

Genuinely Off the Beaten Path

Despite its extraordinary cultural depth, Ivory Coast sees very few international visitors. Travelling here means genuine encounters rather than staged performances, and a sense that you are experiencing something few others have seen.

When to go

Picking the right season for your trip

Our Ivory Coast tours depart in October, January and March — three very different windows that each offer rewarding travel. October sits at the tail of the wet season in the south, when the landscape is lush and temperatures are warm; the north is drier and accessible. January and March fall firmly in the dry season, with lower humidity, easier road conditions across the savannah regions and good visibility for cultural activities and outdoor excursions. For travellers wanting to visit at other times of year, we can arrange a tailor-made Ivory Coast holiday to suit.

Looking to travel outside the typical windows? Our Ivory Coast tailor-made team can advise on the best time for you.

Jason was very helpful and the booking process was quick and easy. UD offers itineraries that many competitors do not. I thoroughly enjoyed both trips I've taken with them. While they may not suit everyone, I have happily recommended the Senegal tour to fellow travellers.
