Pristina is the natural starting point, with its mix of Ottoman heritage, brutalist civic landmarks and a buzzing café and music scene driven by one of the youngest populations in Europe. The biggest draw, though, is Prizren, where mosques, an Orthodox cathedral and a hilltop fortress crowd above the river; beyond it lie the UNESCO-listed Visoki Dečani and Gračanica monasteries, and the wild Rugova Valley and Sharr Mountains for walkers and photographers.
