Travel has always been more than a hobby for me. It’s a way of understanding the world and our place in it. In 2004, I founded Undiscovered Destinations to give people the chance to explore places far from the well-worn tourist trail. I wanted to create journeys that challenged expectations, sparked curiosity, and helped travellers connect more deeply with the places they visit. In 2024, I launched Adventures by Train, a brand dedicated to immersive rail journeys that offer a slower, more reflective way to see the world.
I’ve always been naturally curious. As a child I was shy, but once I began travelling, that quickly changed. There’s something about being in a new environment, surrounded by unfamiliar people and cultures, that encourages you to open up. I found confidence in those experiences, and more importantly, I found a purpose. What started as a personal journey soon became something I wanted to share with others.

One of my first big adventures was in Bangladesh, a country full of life and warmth. I remember walking through towns and villages where locals would come up and ask where I was from, what I was doing there, and sometimes whether I knew their cousin who ran an Indian restaurant in Birmingham. I’d smile and say no, but that I hoped to visit his restaurant one day. These kinds of human interactions have stayed with me. They’re at the heart of what I believe travel should be about.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to explore many remarkable places. I spent two years living in Brazil, which gave me a deeper understanding of South America and its incredible cultural and geographical diversity. I’ve travelled widely across the continent and have a real fondness for countries like Bolivia and Argentina, where dramatic landscapes and rich traditions come together in powerful ways. I’ve also explored parts of Central America, a region that continues to intrigue me and one I look forward to returning to in the future.
Africa has also left a lasting impression. Countries like Eritrea, Malawi, and Madagascar stand out to me not just for their natural beauty, but for their spirit. Travel in Africa often feels raw and unpredictable, and that’s what makes it so powerful. I believe many of us are looking for something that takes us slightly out of our comfort zone. In the moment, it can be challenging. But later, those are often the stories we remember most and talk about with a smile.

Whether it’s an overland journey through remote parts of Asia or a scenic rail route through the Balkans, I’m still motivated by the same goal. I want to help people experience the world in a way that feels real and connected. That’s what great travel is all about.
