Kazakhstan

The world's largest landlocked country, spanning vast steppes, ancient Silk Road cities and the snowy peaks of the Tian Shan.

Overview

An introduction to Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is the vast, open heart of Central Asia, a country of endless steppe, snow-capped mountains, deep canyons and shimmering alpine lakes. Once crossed by Silk Road traders and shaped by centuries of nomadic culture, it offers a striking blend of wilderness, history and warm hospitality.

Our small group tours and tailor-made journeys explore beyond the modern cities of Almaty and Astana, into dramatic landscapes such as Charyn Canyon, the Tien Shan Mountains and the remote villages where traditional Kazakh culture still endures.

With its sweeping horizons, rich nomadic heritage and remarkable natural beauty, Kazakhstan is ideal for travellers drawn to wide open spaces, authentic encounters and journeys well away from the usual tourist trail.

When to go

Picking the right season for your trip

May to June and September to early October are the best times to visit, with pleasant temperatures, clear skies and ideal conditions for exploring both the mountains and vast open landscapes. Summer can be hot across the steppe, while winter is long and cold, bringing heavy snowfall to the mountains and sub-zero temperatures across much of the country.

What travellers say about us

Reviews from across our small-group programme. Independently rated 4.9 Excellent on AITO by 250+ travellers.

Jason was very helpful and the booking process was quick and easy. UD offers itineraries that many competitors do not. I thoroughly enjoyed both trips I've taken with them. While they may not suit everyone, I have happily recommended the Senegal tour to fellow travellers.

I really appreciated Jason's help in answering all of my many questions re: Senegal trip in December 2025. I have a physical disability and I had a lot of accessibility questions for Jason! He was a true professional and was very supportive, warm and friendly and helped me a lot in making my decision to go ahead with the Senegal trip. I would like to thank Jason particularly for this service. I truly appreciate it and I am very thankful.
