About this journey

What to expect on this trip

Georgia and Armenia are two of the least known nations of Europe – in fact most people aren’t even sure whether they’re actually in Europe. Hidden away and often eclipsed by their monumental neighbours, these two countries hide a wealth of diverse secrets. This trip encompasses the very best of the region. We spend time in Tbilisi and marvel at the various cultures that have left their mark on this city, from Imperial Russia to Ottoman Turkey and beyond. We travel into the High Caucasus at Kazbegi and walk up to a dramatically situated ancient church. Explore the remote and mystical land of Svaneti, home to an intriguing culture and some of Europe’s most remote villages overlooked by imposing stone built watchtowers and see the cave town of Vardzia. To top it off in Georgia experience local hospitality and taste wine in the charming region of Kakheti.

Armenia is the world’s oldest Christian nation with an astounding collection of ancient churches and monasteries which will captivate you. In contrast is the capital Yerevan, a lively and engaging city which embraces modernity yet manages to retain its traditions, and is packed full of some of the best Soviet-style architecture to be found anywhere. This is a busy tour with lots of fabulous history, culture and scenery to enjoy, and can be extended into the wider Caucasus region with our Azerbaijan small group tour. Isn’t it time you learned more about this intriguing region?

Independently verified reviews from travellers who joined Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia Caucasus Discovery. Rated 4.9 Excellent on AITO by 250+ reviewers.

I found the whole experience from booking all the way through the trip really enjoyable, and I would definitely use Undiscovered Destinations again if I were looking to book a tour somewhere off the beaten track. Zaza was a truly excellent guide. A particular highlight was visiting Zaza's winery.

Our guide Irakle went well beyond what we could have hoped to ensure that we were comfortable and did everything we wanted to do. He was immensely knowledgeable about Georgian life, history, culture and food and very interesting. When I had a minor accident he guided me throught the process of getting medical help. . We had a wonderful holiday, thank you! We had a wonderful holiday - beautiful country, friendly people, nice food with lots of interesting things to see and learn.

Mussa was one of the best overseas guides in my experience. Nothing was too much trouble and our enjoyment of the tour was obviously his main priority. He was great!

We had a wonderful holiday in Azerbaijan and Georgia arranged by Undiscovered Destinations. It was flawlessly organised, and traveling as a family of four (with two teenagers), we were able to see so many wonderful sights in both countries. We would particularly like to thank the local partner companies for looking after us so well and sharing their detailed knowledge of their respective countries' history and culture. Both countries have so much to offer, from the beautiful natural scenery to amazing architecture and exquisite local cuisine. Both countries were delightful in every way! Special thanks to Mark in London, Revan and Rashad in Azerbaijan, and Irakli in Georgia, who have planned and made this trip for us!

I am a regular with UD and I have had a series of excellent trips. The trip to Armenia was no exception. I had been there briefly in 2011, but I got so much more out of this second trip. My friend also greatly enjoyed the trip. Another resounding success!

Generally very happy and interesting trip. As we went to quite a number of small traditional wine makers it would be good for them to know what information we had already had as the basic methods of production were repeated each time!

I thought that Lilit was extremely knowledgeable and very professional. I rate her very highly. She also took us to some extra places that were not on the itinerary - so was very flexible. She gave us a lot of history and I felt I also learned a lot from her sharing some of her personal history. I really felt that she tried extremely hard to make sure that we had a great holiday. Lilit was particularly good in helping one of the people who could not walk very far and she made sure that person was catered for but the rest of the party still were able to do everything. I thought that all the accommodation was very comfortable and the hotel in Yerevan was particularly well located. The van we used for most of the trip was very modern, clean and airey and the driver was very safe.
