The highlights

  • Khor Virap Monastery with Views of Ararat

Drive through the fertile Ararat Valley to Khor Virap, a pilgrimage monastery set on a hill with iconic views of Mount Ararat. Visit the underground cell where St Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned by King Trdat III.

  • Noravank Monastery

Visit one of the most majestic monuments of medieval Armenia, a dramatic church complex rebuilt by the sculptor Momik. The approach through red-rock gorges makes the monastery a striking sight.

  • Karahunj — Armenian Stonehenge

Explore this outstanding archaeological site of 222 standing stones, believed to date back 7,500 years as a prehistoric observatory. The stones make whistling sounds on windy days due to holes bored at different angles.

  • Tatev Monastery and Selim Caravanserai

Visit the 9th-century Tatev Monastery perched on massive cliffs above deep gorges. Continue via the Selim Caravanserai to the shores of Lake Sevan and the 9th-century Sevanavank Monastery on its peninsula.

  • Haghpat Monastery

Explore this UNESCO-listed masterpiece of medieval Armenian church architecture, founded in 976 AD. The monastery complex sits above a deep river gorge and was once a major spiritual and educational centre.

  • Gyumri Ceramics and ArmAs Winery

Explore the streets of Armenia's cultural capital, known for its 19thcentury Tsarist architecture and artistic heritage. Visit the ArmAs Winery estate with its vineyards against the backdrop of Mount Ararat for a guided tasting.

What travellers say about us

Independently verified reviews from travellers who joined Ancient Armenia. Rated 4.9 Excellent on AITO by 250+ reviewers.

I am a regular with UD and I have had a series of excellent trips. The trip to Armenia was no exception. I had been there briefly in 2011, but I got so much more out of this second trip. My friend also greatly enjoyed the trip. Another resounding success!

I thought that Lilit was extremely knowledgeable and very professional. I rate her very highly. She also took us to some extra places that were not on the itinerary - so was very flexible. She gave us a lot of history and I felt I also learned a lot from her sharing some of her personal history. I really felt that she tried extremely hard to make sure that we had a great holiday. Lilit was particularly good in helping one of the people who could not walk very far and she made sure that person was catered for but the rest of the party still were able to do everything. I thought that all the accommodation was very comfortable and the hotel in Yerevan was particularly well located. The van we used for most of the trip was very modern, clean and airey and the driver was very safe.

Jason was very helpful and the booking process was quick and easy. UD offers itineraries that many competitors do not. I thoroughly enjoyed both trips I've taken with them. While they may not suit everyone, I have happily recommended the Senegal tour to fellow travellers.

I really appreciated Jason's help in answering all of my many questions re: Senegal trip in December 2025. I have a physical disability and I had a lot of accessibility questions for Jason! He was a true professional and was very supportive, warm and friendly and helped me a lot in making my decision to go ahead with the Senegal trip. I would like to thank Jason particularly for this service. I truly appreciate it and I am very thankful.
