The highlights

  • Jamestown Evening Walk

After arriving in the capital, explore Jamestown's Georgian architecture, Castle Gardens, and St James Church. The evening walk also takes in Jacob's Ladder — 699 steps rising steeply from the town — and the historic Court House.

  • Boat Cruise — Dolphins, Turtles and Devil Rays

A morning excursion on the water offers encounters with Bottlenose and Rough-Toothed dolphins, turtles, and Devil Rays in the deep blue Atlantic. The cruise also passes historic island fortifications viewed from the sea.

  • Deadwood Plain and Anglo-Boer War Campsite

A full-day 4x4 and minibus island tour visits Deadwood Plain, a Boer War campsite used from 1900 to 1902. The route also takes in Flagg Staff viewpoint, Levelwood's Bell Stone, and panoramic southwestern Atlantic vistas spanning 2,700 unbroken kilometres.

  • Plantation House and Jonathan the Giant Tortoise

A private tour of Plantation House, the Governor's official residence built in 1792, is highlighted by a meeting with Jonathan — a giant tortoise approaching 200 years old and reportedly the world's oldest living land animal. The afternoon continues with visits to St Paul's Cathedral, High Knoll Fort, and the Boer War cemetery.

  • Museum of Saint Helena

The Museum of Saint Helena covers the island's history alongside 500 years of shipwreck artefacts recovered from surrounding waters. It is recommended as the standout independent activity on the leisure day.

  • Hike to Blue Point and Saint Helena Coffee Plantation

A two-hour morning hike to Blue Point delivers coastal views over Sandy Bay beach, Lots Wife ponds, and the Blue Hill countryside. The afternoon visits a coffee plantation where cultivation and processing of one of the world's rarest coffees can be observed.

Aaron was honestly the best guide I've ever had in all my years of travel. His knowledge was vast, he talked about all aspects of island life as well as the tourist sites - but the way he explained things and the depth he went into made everything SO much more interesting. Friendly and happy staff. All perfect and we ALL said the same!

Excellent value and a great chance to see a place few people ever go and although I have now visited 126 or 127 countries, the island is a place very different from anywhere I have been. The best place to be to get away from the troubles and problems in the rest of the world.

Jason was very helpful and the booking process was quick and easy. UD offers itineraries that many competitors do not. I thoroughly enjoyed both trips I've taken with them. While they may not suit everyone, I have happily recommended the Senegal tour to fellow travellers.

I really appreciated Jason's help in answering all of my many questions re: Senegal trip in December 2025. I have a physical disability and I had a lot of accessibility questions for Jason! He was a true professional and was very supportive, warm and friendly and helped me a lot in making my decision to go ahead with the Senegal trip. I would like to thank Jason particularly for this service. I truly appreciate it and I am very thankful.
