What to expect on this trip

On our Madagascar small group tour we take in the very best of this enigmatic and alluring land. Our journey takes us to the little visited Tsingy de Bemaraha Reserve, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site on account of its amazing rock formations, yet virtually unknown to the outside world until twenty years ago – few other operators take the trouble to reach this area, but it is without a doubt one of the highlights of Madagascar. We also visit superb national parks, including the bizarre moonscape of Isalo and the lush rainforests of Ranomafana, home to countless species of lemurs including the rare golden bamboo lemur, only discovered by scientists in 1986. We also visit Andasibe, one of the best places in Madagascar to see the curious indri, the largest species of lemur, and spend time taking walks through the forest in search of endemic wildlife. Finally, we spend time at Ifaty on the coast – a relaxing end to the trip. If you have more time to spare why not extend your stay by the beach with our Mikea Forest Beach Extension or try one of our other extensions to either the pristine forest of Anjozorobe or go tropical on the East Coast with our Pangalanes Wildlife Experience. Andasibe National Park & Indri Lemur Tracking
A morning forest walk with an expert guide in Andasibe National Park searches for the iconic indri lemur alongside other wildlife. Visitors may also participate in the Mitsinjo reforestation project, which links rainforest fragments and promotes restoration. An evening forest walk on arrival reveals nocturnal creatures in the park's lush vegetation.
Kirindy Reserve & the Elusive Fossa
After flying west to Morondava, the route continues to Kirindy Reserve passing majestic baobabs en route. A night walk offers the rare chance to observe the elusive fossa alongside nocturnal lemurs in their natural habitat
Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park
This UNESCO World Heritage Site features dramatically eroded limestone pinnacles forming deep canyons navigated via boardwalks and ladders. The first full day includes canoe exploration of the Manambolo Gorge and the Petit Tsingy circuit, while the second day tackles the Grand Tsingy circuit through the park's most impressive formations.
Avenue of the Baobabs at Sunset
On the long drive back from Bekopaka to Morondava, the route includes a sunset stop at the legendary Avenue of the Baobabs, where trees up to 800 years old line the road. The stop is timed for golden-hour light, making it one of the most iconic photographs in Madagascar.
Antsirabe City & Ambositra Wood Carving
Antsirabe, a highland city founded by Norwegians in 1856, is explored with a city tour and visits to local workshops. The route then passes through Ambositra, described as the centre of Madagascar's wood carving industry.
Ranomafana National Park
A morning is spent exploring the rainforests of Ranomafana searching for lemurs, reptiles, and birds. Described as one of Madagascar's most beautiful national parks, it is noted for protecting the golden bamboo lemur. An optional night walk is available on arrival.
