Tanzania- Where Wildlife, Wilderness and Timeless Landscapes Meet
Tanzania is one of the world’s great safari destinations, home to vast wilderness areas and an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. The endless plains of the Serengeti, the wildlife rich Ngorongoro Crater and the baobab studded landscapes of Tarangire offer outstanding opportunities to encounter elephants, lions, giraffes, zebra and many other species in their natural habitat. Beyond safari, Tanzania offers spectacular mountain scenery, fascinating cultures and the tropical islands of Zanzibar, where historic Stone Town and beautiful Indian Ocean beaches provide the perfect contrast to an adventure in the wild.

From the field
Sweet spot: Jan–Feb · Jun–Oct
Tanzania can be visited throughout the year, although the dry seasons from June to October and January to February are particularly good for safaris. June to October generally brings dry, sunny conditions and excellent wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources. The Great Migration can be seen in different areas of the Serengeti throughout the year, with movements dependent on rainfall and conditions. The main rainy season usually falls between March and May, while shorter rains can occur in November and December. Zanzibar remains warm year round, making it an excellent addition to a safari, particularly during the drier months.

Foreign Office (FCDO) Travel Warnings: The FCDO currently advises against all but essential travel within 20km of Tanzania’s border with Cabo Delgado Province in Mozambique. This does not affect the principal safari areas of the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara, or Zanzibar. Travellers should always check the latest FCDO advice before departure, particularly regarding regional security, demonstrations and local conditions.
